'This Savage Song' Is Coming To Theaters

A Thursday exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Sony had acquired the film rights to Victoria Schwab's This Savage Song . The YA novel debuted at No. 1 on The New York Times YA Best Seller List when it was published on July 5, 2016. This Savage Song is the first installment in Schwab's Monsters of Verity series. A sequel, Our Dark Duet, is slated for release in 2017.

This Savage Song is a work of dark urban fantasy, set in a city where crime has bred literal monsters. At the heart of the city are Kate Harker and August Flynn. Kate is the willing heir to her father's extortion empire, which revolves around charging humans protection money while allowing the violent creatures to run free. August is one of the monsters, capable of charming away souls with his music, but he wants nothing more than to be human. Kate discovers August's secret, and a failed assassination plot throws the two into a flight for their lives.

If you're tired of post-apocalyptic YA romances, don't worry. Schwab herself assures us that This Savage Song is "Sin City PLUS Romeo and Juliet MINUS romance PLUS monsters," which means you won't have to suffer through angsty passages or scenes about Kate and August's feelings.
