Katy Perry Is Fiercely #WithHer

by Margaret Judson

The RNC wrapped up its almost week-long spectacle on Thursday, where official (yes, it's real!) Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump over-promised and under-delivered on star power (ironically, a move that's famously considered to be a questionable business tactic). Now, new details are emerging about who's to be expected at the next circus in America's political queue. The latest update of the DNC's appearance list confirms Katy Perry will be at the DNC convention.

While Trump was desperately wrangling some D-listers, Clinton was able to secure coveted A-listers, all without bragging that she could. Politico reports that this is all part of how Dems are on a mission to round up TV viewers and upstage the RNC's showing. The DNC has vowed to bring more celebrity allure during the party's convention, and it's even being dubbed "Clintonchella" by Vanity Fair.

Not only is Katy Perry expected to be there, but a long list of other celebrities have confirmed they will be a part of the event including Demi Lovato, Lena Dunham, Elizabeth Banks, Eva Longoria, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jarron and Jason Collins, Lee Daniels, Chloe Grace Moritz, Snoop Dogg, Tony Goldwyn, Debra Messing, America Ferrera, and the beat goes on...

Coincidentally, it was almost exactly one year ago that Katy Perry posted a photo of herself with former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush with the caption "42, 43, 46?!" suggesting she would potentially run for office one day. Although 2016 doesn't look to be her year, Perry announced in a tweet that she will be supporting the Democratic presumptive nominee.

It's yet to be confirmed exactly how Katy will "use her voice" to support Clinton, as she noted in the tweet. She could be leaving the specific way she will be involved a bit vague on purpose. USA Today reports that a spokeswoman for the DNC can only go so far as to say the celebrities mentioned "will be participating" at the convention and isn't detailing in what capacity.

Dems didn't get everyone on their wish list, though. There are some people the DNC is reported to have been courting, but with whom they ultimately weren't able to seal the deal. One of those people is Lin Manuel-Miranda. He's been known to have close ties with Dems in the past and some say his performance at the White House (click on the hyperlink — his sweet baby face in the video will shock you) in 2009 is what arguably put him on the map. Even though Miranda has wrapped up his groundbreaking stint as the titular character in the hit musical Hamilton, instead of attending the convention, Miranda will be shooting a Mary Poppins remake in London next week. Oprah Winfrey is also reported to have been at the top of the Dems' "get" list, but likely won't make it.

In any event, what's still to be determined: Clinton's highly-anticipated pick for Vice President. If Katy Perry had her wish, you can bet it'd be Left Shark.
