Fergie May Have A Theory On The Kim & Taylor Feud

by Ashani Jodha

We all know about the ongoing feud between Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. A mini-refresher, though, just in case: West released a song on his most recent album The Life Of Pablo that included lyrics like, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ Why? I made that b*tch famous" and claimed he had Swift's permission and blessing to use the lyrics, Swift denies she ever gave him her blessing to use the words "that b*tch" to reference her, and Kardashian claims to have Swift on tape giving her blessing — then Kardashian released said videos on her Snapchat in West's defense. Whew! It's a damn rollercoaster, that feud — dating pretty much all the way back to 2009 when West took to the stage of the MTV VMAs while Swift accepted her award for Video of the Year to tell the audience he thought Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" should have won instead. But, is it possible that this is all... a publicity stunt? One person seems to think so: In a new interview, Fergie appeared to suggest Swift and Kardashian's feud could be fake, and a scheme to get more media attention.

"You've gotta respect her for sticking up for her husband,” the 41-year-old “M.I.L.F. $” singer said during an interview with Kyle and Jackie O. "Knowing [Kimye], it's probably a big master plan. They'll probably all come together at the MTV Awards or something."

I mean, could it be possible? While I'd like to think these guys are actually all friends behind-the scenes, I gotta say, the feud looks pretty real to me. Back in February, when TLOP first came out, Swift immediately took offense to the lyrics about her on the album, and released an official statement from her team denying any suggestion that West ran his lyrics by Swift:

Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that [expletive] famous.’

Swift then took the feud even more public on the 2016 Grammys stage in February as well, by seemingly responding to West's accusation that he was the sole purpose for her success: "As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there will be people along the way who will try to undercut your success," she said, "or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame."

Then, Kardashian immediately chimed in during an interview with GQ to claim that Swift allegedly did know about the lyric — and, even more than that, she had documented video confirmation to prove it.

It was funny because [on the call with Kanye, Taylor] said, 'When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I’m so against this, and I’ll just laugh and say, 'The joke’s on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time.' And I’m like, wait, but [in] your Grammy speech, you completely dissed my husband just to play the victim again... She totally approved that. She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn't. I swear, my husband gets so much sh*t for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved...What rapper would call a girl that he was rapping a line about to get approval?

Swift's team then released a second statement to GQ, saying:

Taylor does not hold anything against Kim Kardashian as she recognizes the pressure Kim must be under and that she is only repeating what she has been told by Kanye West. However, that does not change the fact that much of what Kim is saying is incorrect. Kanye West and Taylor only spoke once on the phone while she was on vacation with her family in January of 2016 and they have never spoken since. Taylor has never denied that conversation took place. It was on that phone call that Kanye West also asked her to release the song on her Twitter account, which she declined to do. Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term ‘that b*tch’ in referencing her. A song cannot be approved if it was never heard. Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift. Taylor heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated. Kim Kardashian's claim that Taylor and her team were aware of being recorded is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone.

Cue Kardashian releasing the tapes on her Snapchat in July — clips which showed Swift approving of the line, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex," but not any mention of "that b*tch," and then, cue Swift releasing another statement, this time on her Instagram page:

Fergie's newest theory about the now infamous Kimye vs. Swift altercation does bring up an interesting point about how the celeb world functions. Could it be that she happens to know how feuds like this work in Hollywood, and is speaking based off that? Or, is she just taking a shot in the dark? I guess until the MTV VMAs in late August, that's anyone's guess.
