Say Goodbye To These Netflix Faves In August

by Emily Lackey

There comes a time, every month, when Netflix fans around the world have to bow their heads, hold tight to their tissues, and say goodbye the titles that have seen them through that month of streaming. Every month, there are shows and movies that leave the streaming service, and August is, unfortunately, no different. There are a lot of great movies and television shows leaving Netflix in August, and trust me when I say that these are definitely worth shedding a tear or two over.

So, here’s what I recommend doing to get you through the grief: Hold tight to your throw pillows, put on your most comfortable pair of sweatpants, and drown a bowl of popcorn in melted butter, because you, my friend, are going to need all three of these things. Saying goodbye to these awesome Netflix titles won’t be easy, but thankfully we have the next few days to watch them on repeat. And I won’t blame you for wanting to get in as many of these titles in as you can.

In fact, if you see some brown-haired girl on the subway, clutching her smartphone to her chest and sobbing hysterically over the end of The Sandlot, you’ll know it’s me. Don’t be scared. Say hi. Take a seat. We can watch the next one together.

1. The Sandlot

A childhood favorite, this coming-of-age film made an entire generation of kids into huge baseball fans and totally terrified of the neighbors’ dog.

2. Mr. Peabody & Sherman

What’s not to miss about an intelligent dog with glasses? Once this movie is gone, I’ll have to rely on my dog to do the trick, and, trust me, he’s not nearly as smart.

3. Charlie’s Angels

I guess I’ll just have to start going to kickboxing class in the time that I used to spend watching this movie on repeat and feeling like a badass through osmosis.

4. The Pursuit of Happyness

What I will do without Will Smith in my life is not something that I ever want to contemplate. Thankfully, there are a few other titles still available to stream on the service.

5. Inside Man

Denzel Washington and Jodie Foster? What’s not to love? What’s not to miss forever?

6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III

This is best enjoyed on a Saturday morning with a big bowl of sugar-sweetened cereal. I'm speaking from experience here.

So hold tight to these favorites while you still can, and let this monthly exodus be a lesson to all of us to appreciate the titles that we have while we still have them.
