Idris Elba May Voice Shere Khan in 'Jungle Book'

by Alicia Lutes

Impressively talented and Extremely handsome actor Idris Elba is in final talks to star in the live-action/CGI remake of the Disney classic, The Jungle Book. Yes, that's right — another remake! You are very surprised by this completely unexpected Hollywood doing, aren't you? Directed by Jon Favreau, the Luther star is set to tackle the role of head baddie, the no-good meanie jungle cat Shere Khan the tiger.

According to reports, Elba will "perform the role and provide the voice," leading many to speculate on the amount of motion capture used in the creation of the film. It's not unprecedented, either (far from it): actor Andy Serkis has done Rise of the Planet of the Apes and King Kong in this manner, and last year's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug did much the same with its main baddie, King of the Internet Benedict Cumberbatch. Which means we can only hold out hope for behind the scenes footage (heck, even a GIF) of Elba pawing around on a floor growling in that scary-seductive manner that is his voice. Sorry — have you seen Luther? For a good guy he sure is bad, real bad. And we like it.

No word on who else is set to star in the film, but expect that news sooner rather than later, as it seems there's a race to be first between Disney and Warner Brothers who both have adaptations of the Rudyard Kipling novel in the works now that the book is technically in the public domain. We're still waiting on Elba's turn as a superhero, though.
