President Fitz, The Polygamist?

President Fitz on Scandal may claim that he loves Olivia Pope, but let's be honest, the dude is a little shady. His multiple extra-marital affairs aside, the guy has made some questionable life choices. Like murdering a Supreme Court judge. And that whole thing with B613. And the fact that he'd rather make out with Liv in the Oval Office than talk about, I don't know, war. But while I find President Fitz insufferable, Tony Goldwyn's next role is certain to make my skin crawl. According to Entertainment Weekly, Tony Goldwyn has been cast as Warren Jeffs in new Lifetime movie.

While President Fitz may not be squeaky clean, he is in no way as terrible as real-life Warren Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS Church). Warren Jeffs had been accused of multiple sex crimes during his time as leader of the church, including sexual misconduct with minors, before was put on the FBI's Most Wanted List in 2006. He attempted to flee Utah in order to avoid charges for the arrangement of marriages between adult men and underage girls and in August 2009, he was finally caught by the FBI and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

The Lifetime film (working title Outlaw Prophet) is based on the book When Men Become Gods by Stephen Singular. The film will chronicle Jeffs’ rise to power following the death of his father. Just reading about Warren Jeffs gives me the creeps, so I can only imagine what this Lifetime movie will do to audiences. That being said, Tony Goldwyn is a great choice for the role, and not only because of my severe dislike for President Fitz.

Goldwyn is a strong actor who has taken on several very dark roles in the past, including a father hellbent on revenge for a crime committed against his daughter in the remake of The Last House On The Left. And while President Fitz's approval rating may be really low right now (for the American people on Scandal, too, not just this writer) he does give a great speech — and he'll need those skills for cult-like leader Warren Jeffs.

I'm sure that this Lifetime film will terrify audiences and make me think even less of Fitz by association, but I'm happy to hear that if they're going to make a movie about a total creep, that they hired a great actor to do so.
