Vivienne Westwood Did This for Climate Change

by Cherise Luter

British designer Vivienne Westwood has never been one to sit back quietly, and her latest effort? Doing her part to bring attention to the issue of climate change. Westwood's shaved her head and I’m writing about it, so I guess the plan worked.

The designer unveiled her new 'do during a protest in her neighborhood opposing the sale of long-standing housing co-operatives, reports The Telegraph. A spokesperson for the designer filled in the world on the dramatic new cut, saying, "Vivienne cut her hair as we must all wake up to Climate Change."

As many in the fashion industry know, Westwood never misses a chance to make a grand political statement for causes near to her heart. Her punk rock roots may have something to do with it. Just last month, she announced she would be halting expansion of her design empire in order to reconcile the fashion house's production methods with her eco-friendly mindset.

"I have decided not to expand any more. In fact I want to do the opposite," she told The Guardian. "I am now more interested in quality rather than quantity."

The announcement came on the heels of her Save the Arctic photo campaign in partnership with Greenpeace featuring celeb names like Georgia May Jagger, Chris Martin of Coldplay, and George Clooney (because, of course).

And let’s not forget she raised a Greenpeace flag at Shell headquarters, while looking like the cutest little English lady ever.

At age 72, she is designing magnificent dresses for farm animals, showing beautiful collections at London Fashion Week, and saving the Earth one bald head at a time.

I need to step it up.
