Proof 'GG' Might Have Predicted Clinton's Nom

by Emily Lackey

2016 is shaping up to be quite the banner year. With the Gilmore Girls returning for a four-part revival and Hillary Clinton earning the title of the first female presidential nominee of any major party, I think it’s safe to say that this is quite the year for strong women. But, did you realize that these two things — Gilmore Girls and Hillary Clinton — have a lot more in common than meets the eye? For instance, did you know that Gilmore Girls soooorta predicted that Clinton might eventually become president? Don't worry if you didn't — it didn't seem to hit Twitter until today, as demonstrated by this one Gilmore Girls tweet that proves the revival was meant to happen.

It’s a moment from the show that probably passed right by most of us when we watched it for the first time. With Lorelai’s tendency to talk fast, it wouldn’t surprise me if the only people who picked up this line were those of us who have spent the last nine years of our lives watching episodes of the Gilmore Girls on repeat and memorizing every single line. The moment came when Lorelai was on the phone in the Season 5 episode, "A Messenger, Nothing More." She’s holding her cordless — you know, like they did back in the early '00s — and sitting in her comfy lounge chair. And then, she says it: The thing that proves that the revival was always meant to happen, and that it was always meant to happen now: “See you when Hillary’s president!”

Um, should I pause so we can all freak out at the amazing telepathic properties of Amy Sherman-Palladino?

Like, this woman, right? How could she have known that, in nine years Hillary Clinton, would actually stand a pretty good chance of becoming president and that we’d be seeing Lorelai again within weeks of each other? Especially since the premiere date has officially been announced — November 25, for those of you who haven’t yet penciled it into your calendar — and it’s just days after the 2016 presidential election on November 8.

Now I, of course, can not say for sure that Hillary Clinton will have won the presidency by the time November 25 rolls around and the Gilmore Girls revival premieres, but if this tweet is as predictive as I want it to be, I’d say there’s a pretty good chance that Lorelai had it right long before the rest of us did.
