Frank Ocean's New Album May Get Here Very Soon

by Kaitlin Reilly

Good things come to those who wait, but apparently really great things come to those who wait years. Greatness is all that fans can expect when it comes to R&B singer Frank Ocean, though speediness seems to be on this musician's back burner. Ocean had fans eagerly awaiting his second album for what seemed like forever, though, in reality, the wait will be more like four years. The critical success of Ocean's 2012 major-label debut Channel Orange (which PitchFork decided, upon first review, "already sounds like a classic") had the world tuned in to what the New Orleans-born musician would put out next, and fortunately, Ocean's newest album no longer feels light years away. According to The New York Times, Ocean's album Boys Don't Cry will arrive on Aug. 5, and it's an announcement worthy of major celebration.

According to The New York Times, a source close to the release plans confirmed that Ocean's new album would be forthcoming, and included details about how the new album would be released. Though Ocean's label, Def Jam, did not respond back to The New York Times to confirm the news, the source stated that Boys Don't Cry would become available via an exclusive deal with Apple Music. Fans who already have the streaming service are likely thrilled to have made the choice between the Apple brand and other services like Spotify and Pandora, which seemingly won't have access to Ocean's new album. I already sense an influx of Ocean fans borrowing their friend's Apple Music-loaded iPhones now for an immediate listen of the new album.

What do we know so far about that actual album itself? According to Ocean, Boys Don't Cry will be a concept album that was inspired by classic bands like The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Channel Orange drew influence from artists like Stevie Wonder, so this time around the album sounds like it will be a bit more classic rock influenced. Color me intrigued — no matter what Ocean puts out there, it's sure to please his fans.
