'The View' Has A New Co-Host

by Emily Lackey

Good news, Good Morning America fans: Your favorite news anchor, Sara Haines, has signed on to The View and will appear on the series as a co-host. This is a pretty big deal, of course: Haines joins table of woman as host with already a ton of news credit to her name. For one thing, she’s already done the job! In early 2016, Haines filled in for Michelle Collins, another View co-host, while Collins was vacationing in Europe. After her brief stint at the table, there was talk about whether or not she’d be coming back for a longer stay, but after giving birth to her first son, the talk of Haines joining the team of women over at The View quieted.

It turns out that all of radio silence may have something to do with the fact that Haines was busy signing contracts to join the cast full-time, because the GMA weekend anchor is officially moving from her news desk to a round table. And really it’s about time. Even though the news means that another woman is leaving the show, having Haines take her place seems like a good decision. Not only does Haines have the right experience for the job (um, hello, she pulled it off with panache for weeks!), she also brings that serious news ethos that a talk show like The View could use.

Not that I don’t love the actresses and comedians who have sat at the table in the past 20 seasons of The View, because I do — but I also love a serious girl who is more interested in delivering the day’s top stories than hitting all of today’s punch lines. Besides, every season of The View needs its Meredith Vieira, and with serious news skills like that, I’m guessing Haines is next season’s girl.

So welcome to the table, Haines. We fans can’t wait to have you back for good.
