The 'Ocean's 8' Soundtrack Needs Some Rih-Rih

by Amy Mackelden

The internet is alight with Ocean's 8 news, because a whole host of incredible women are being associated with upcoming remake starring Sandra Bullock. If the rumors are true, it'll be fun to see Rihanna in an ensemble cast alongside amazing actors like Bullock, Mindy Kaling, and Helena Bonham Carter. But surely the most important question is will there be a Rihanna song on the Ocean's 8 soundtrack? The singer has contributed to a lot of movie soundtracks already, so the chances seem high.

Everyone was already excited for an all-female version of Ocean's Eleven because, hello, feminism, but I really can't wait now it's been rumored that Rihanna has been cast in the movie. The singer is no stranger to taking on film roles, having already starred in 2012's Battleship, 2013's This Is The End, and the 2006 masterpiece Bring It On: All Or Nothing. Most recently, Rihanna's song "Sledgehammer" was featured in the soundtrack to Star Trek Beyond, playing over the end credits and featuring in the trailer for the film. Having her music accompany such an iconic movie series was a real accomplishment, and makes the possibility of having a song on the Ocean's 8 soundtrack even more likely. Perhaps Rihanna will even perform in the Ocean's Eleven reboot?

The screenplay for Ocean's 8 is being written by Olivia Milch, and, according to one of its rumored stars, it's a real feminist take on the Ocean's franchise. Helena Bonham Carter told Entertainment Weekly in June 2016 that Ocean's 8 has “a great script, and it’s great for women. Just hilarious.” The director, Gary Ross, told SlashFilm that the movie will have "a pretty similar tone" to the other Ocean's movies, which probably means we can expect a Las Vegas setting and some casino hijinks. If the movie is set in Vegas, the possibility of Rihanna singing in the movie becomes even more likely, as she'd be the perfect choice for a Vegas residency, or a singer in a bar.

Even if Rihanna's character in Ocean's 8 doesn't use her vocal talents during the movie, there's still a high chance that she'll feature on the soundtrack for the movie, because she's just amazing, OK? Plus, Rihanna's songs have featured in many movies and TV shows including as Home, The Bling Ring, Daddy's Home, Grey's Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, and I Love You Man, to name but a few. Her music was made for soundtracks.
