Trump Is Having A Meltdown On New 'TIME' Cover

by Erin Corbett

GOP nominee Donald Trump has had a lot going on the last few weeks. In just one week, he managed to insult both the Muslim community and US veterans when he attacked the family of Captain Humayun Khan. Trump later made comments about how women should quit their jobs if they're sexually harassed at work — it's what he would expect his daughter Ivanka to do, after all. He initially refused to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan and Arizona Sen. John McCain. And with that and more, TIME put Trump's meltdown on its latest cover. No, not Trump, his meltdown.

The cover photo is a drawing of Trump's face literally melting like a scoop of ice cream, paired with the word "Meltdown." That's one way to describe the businessman's behavior this summer, especially since Trump is really falling behind in the polls and losing pretty badly to his Democratic counterpart, Hillary Clinton. Trump is polling at 40 percent, while Clinton is at nearly 48 percent, according to a RealClearPolitics average, which means that the former reality TV star has a lot of support to build in the coming month ahead of early voting, which kicks off in September.

According to its cover story, TIME reported that RNC chair Reince Priebus was away when the news broke that Trump was refusing to endorse Ryan. Priebus allegedly told Trump that "he was on track to lose the election. And if Trump didn’t turn around his campaign over the coming weeks, the Republican National Committee would consider redirecting party resources and machinery to House and Senate races." Some harsh words for the Donald and we all know Trump doesn't like to be the one getting fired. Trump denied the claim, noting "[Priebus] never said that," TIME reports.

Trump has been on a downward spiral since last month's conventions. Not only has he targeted the Muslim community, women, and his fellow Republicans, but he's also called on Russia to get involved in this year's elections by finding and releasing Clinton's private emails. He also seemingly suggested that the "Second Amendment people" could do something about Clinton "if she gets to pick her [Supreme Court] judges." Definitely something of a meltdown.

TIME likened the candidate's current polling average to the fact that he wants the race to be about him, but so does the Clinton campaign. The only thing is that Trump doesn't need Clinton's spotlight to make him look bad. And while the GOP nominee generally likes to have so much of the media's attention, one Twitter user noted, "Trump loves it when he's on the cover of @Time Magazine. I'm guessing he won't like it this time."

And they're probably right, given that Trump's Senior Communications Advisor Jason Miller has also taken to Twitter to condemn the publication's story, writing "Sad to see @TIME get this so wrong and for @CNN to blindly follow."

We'll have to keep watching to see where Trump's meltdown leads him next.
