The Shade + Light Contour Palette 2.0 Is Coming

by Kali Borovic

It's no secret that Kat Von D Beauty is an animal-friendly company. Ever since the tattoo artist started her makeup line, she's been working towards getting all the animal products out of her cosmetics. It looks like all that hard work is finally paying off. According to her Instagram post, the new version of the Shade + Light Contour Palette will be 100 percent vegan. That's not all there is to get excited about in the product upgrade either. If you loved the face sculpting staple before, you're going to love the 2.0 version just as much.

As if the Shade + Light Contour Palette wasn't already great enough, it's getting even better. According to Kat Von D's Instagram account, she has reformulated a contour color that previously contained carmine to be vegan. That means the entire palette can now be safe for animal lovers to use. It's not every day that a company reformulates their already-standout products for a cause, so this is big news.

The post says that the new carmine-free formula will put into production as soon as possible, so it's time to get excited. The vegan formula isn't the only thing for makeup fans to get excited about. According to the caption, Shade + Light version 2.0 will have refillable pans as well. If that's not great news, then I don't know what is.

What exactly is Carmine, you ask? Well, according to Live Science, it's a red dye made of insects. Pretty gross concept, if you ask me. Let's be thankful that there are awesome brands out there to save the animals.

The color in question was Sombre, the one in the bottom middle of the palette. In the description of the post, Kat Von D left a message for her fans and other companies as well.

"Thank you for being so patient," the caption says. "Reformulation takes a whole lotta work, but is completely worth it! And to all other brands out there, I just wanna show you that if @katvondbeauty can do it, YOU. CAN. TOO!"

How awesome is that? The company has been a force to be reckoned with in the beauty world, and I can't wait to see what they come up with next.
