by Andi O'Rourke

After the classic Mario turned back into the Japanese Prime Minister during the closing ceremony of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games, well, the internet was bound to take notice. But chances are, Tokyo is just getting started, as it has another four years to prepare for even more surprises. Check out these 7 Shinzo Abe memes that prove Tokyo 2020 will bring the fun, as well as the games, to its Olympics.

The closing ceremony isn't just a place for athletes to celebrate their victories and, at times, accept defeat; it is also a chance to look ahead at what is to come. In this case, the next summer Olympic games will take place in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020. The last time that Tokyo played host to the world's best athletes was in 1964, but '64 wasn't the first time that Tokyo was scheduled to hold the festivities. The 1940 Summer Games was supposed to be held in the city, however the advent of World War Two meant that the event was canceled.

A whole lot will have changed in the 80 years since Tokyo's first shot at hosting the games fell through; if anything demonstrates that, it's Prime Minister Abe's super on-trend entrance at the closing ceremony. Check out the best of the Internet's reaction to Abe below:

With the games in Rio ended and the Olympic flag was officially on it's way to Tokyo, organizers hoped that Japan's biggest city would be able to easily accommodate the athletes, fans, and professionals who will make the journey come summer of 2020. The densely populated metropolis has a robust public transportation system, and is considered to be one of the safest cities in the world.
