Beyoncé Remembers Aaliyah With Vintage Video

Although it may be hard to believe, it's officially been 15 years since Aaliyah's untimely death. The R&B artist, known for hits like "Rock The Boat" and "Try Again," passed away from a plane crash on Aug. 25, 2001. To commemorate the anniversary of her death and keep the singer's spirit alive, Beyoncé posted a vintage clip with Aaliyah on her Instagram on Thursday. Based on some sleuthing, I discovered that this is from the 2000 MTV Movie Awards, where Bey co-hosted the MTV red carpet pre-show. August 25 is undeniably a sad day, but this video is guaranteed to make fans smile.

In the brief clip, a young Beyoncé asks Aaliyah what she's most excited about at the award show. She gushes about how much she can't wait to see D'Angelo perform. (If you want to get really nostalgic, you can watch D'Angelo's performance on YouTube.) The ladies bond over how fine he is. I guess this is before Bey fell for Jay Z, huh? And it's clearly before she became way too big of a star to be interviewing others on the red carpet. Oh, how times have changed.

Overall, the video is a perfect way to pay tribute to a talented singer. It's nice to see another musical great keep Aaliyah's memory alive. Her songs will go down as classics, and these two women prove that the most legendary singers go by only one name: Beyoncé, Aaliyah, etc. No need for two-word monikers.

See? Didn't that that video bring a smile to your face? Looking back at the fun memories is a good way to get through the hard times. Bey didn't post a caption with it, but that's likely because it speaks for itself. Plus, this clip is a reminder of something important: All of these years later and Aaliyah will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.
