The Throne Is Jay Z's And Kanye's At SXSW

by Mallory Schlossberg

What makes a power combo? When you combine crazy insane power forces of hip hop, you win. Jay Z and Kanye West killed it with their performance at SXSW, proving that indeed, they are two pretty damned talented rappers, and that the hip hop throne is 100 percent theirs.

Obviously, there was a ton of expectation to live up to, as fans were lined up to see the duo behind Watch The Throne perform together for the first time since 2012's Watch The Throne tour... and this reunion definitely lived up to the hype. In fact, Billboard called this reunion "a bromance for the ages." Who doesn't love a good hip hop bromance!

And seriously, it's a testament to one another (or a rapping bromance) when you perform a two hour set together. Most artists usually perform an hour-long set and call it a night. Not these two. They gave the audience what they waited in line for with their individual solo hits, like HOVA's hooky standards "99 Problems," ''Empire State of Mind," ''Dirt Off Your Shoulder" and "Big Pimpin'." So much retro satisfaction! Yeezus gave the crowd some "Jesus Walks" and "Runaway."

They gave they audience what they wanted and then some with hits from Watch The Throne like "Church In The Wild," "...in Paris," and the always aptly-titled, "Who Gon Stop Me." Nobody, Kanye and Jay Z. Ain't nobody gon' stop you guys.

...Except maybe Beyonce and Kim (but in the good, "you're my lady!" kinda way.)

No word on when the sequel to Watch The Throne will come out, but if you need something to quell your desire to hear some sick collaborations between these kings of hip hop, hopefully this will satisfy you for now — check out the two of them performing "Otis" at SXSW Wednesday night. It's ALMOST like being there, if you close your eyes and imagine you're in Austin and surrounded by an enormous pack of people.
