Justin Timberlake Never Heard of Take Back the Night

by Kate Ward

Believe it or not, Justin Timberlake has indeed never heard of the victim support group Take Back the Night. So the singer, who recently released his latest single titled "Take Back the Night," is trying to take back taking "Take Back the Night" from the organization. (Phew.)

In a statement, Timberlake said about the song's name choice, "Upon the release of my new single 'Take Back The Night,' I was made aware of an organization of the same name called The Take Back The Night Foundation. I wanted to take this opportunity to let all know that neither my song nor its lyrics have any association with the organization."

That said, the singer — whose single includes lyrics like "Come on, use me up until there's nothing left — is hoping that the song only helps to raise awareness surrounding the organization. After all, we're talking about it, aren't we? As Timberlake says, "As I've learned more about The Take Back The Night Foundation, I'm moved by its efforts to stop violence against women, create safe communities and encourage respectful relationships for women—something we all should rally around. It is my hope that this coincidence will bring more awareness to this cause."

The organization, which aims to raise awareness about sexual assault, spoke out about the song in the past week, claiming that Timberlake never approached them about the name of his new single. Probably because, as the singer made clear, he didn't even know they existed in the first place. Watch out, National Organization for Women — are you next?
