The Starbucks Chile Mocha Is Full Of Spice

by Megan Grant

Autumn has largely become known as the season of the Pumpkin Spice Latte; but this year, there's going to be a new Starbucks drink giving the PSL a run for its money: The Chile Mocha. I immediately started salivating upon the mention of mocha, so let's continue. What's in a Starbuck Chile Mocha? I've got the breakdown of the delicious ingredients.

While it at first seems like an unusual twist to the traditional mocha, the new Starbucks coffee drink actually makes perfect sense. Take a look at the PSL, which combines fall favorites (heated spices and flavors) with traditional coffee. It makes for the perfect seasonal drink — warm and cozy, with a bit of a kick. It's this same idea that makes the Chile Mocha yet another ideal autumn beverage. It combines bold flavors with more traditional tastes of fall, making it yet another Starbucks hit.

Like the Pumpkin Spice Latte, the Chile Mocha is excellent both over ice or as a blended Frappuccino. The drink is officially released nationwide to the public on Sept. 6, although Starbucks Rewards loyalty members will be able to get it earlier — Sept. 3. Lucky people.

Although nothing will ever take the place of our dear friend the PSL, the Chile Mocha is a welcome addition to the Sbux family. Here's what you can expect when you order this tasty concoction:

1. Cocoa And Spice

A traditional mocha includes chocolate, so cocoa is a must!

2. Steamed Milk

Steamed milk is another essential in any mocha drink. What sets it apart here is that it's actually steamed with the aforementioned cocoa and spice, rather than having the flavor added to the milk afterwards. Sbux's default milk option here is two percent.

3. Espresso

Gimme that caffeine. A Tall, 12-oounce Chile Mocha has 80mg of caffeine, although it can also be ordered decaf.

4. Whipped Cream

Whipped cream belongs on everything.

5. Spice Topping

This just might be the Chile Mocha's secret weapon: A combination of ancho chili pepper, sea salt, cinnamon, paprika, cayenne, and sugar make this drink one of a kind.

The Chile Mocha be available at company-operated and licensed Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada beginning on Sept. 6 while supplies last; you can expect to shell out around $4.25 to $4.75for a 12-ounce Tall, depending on your market. Happy Fall, everyone!
