Why She's Jealous Of Some Actresses

by Mallory Schlossberg

She's awesome. She's Hermione (well, she was, but once in Potterland, always in Potterland, ya know?). But you know what? Emma Watson wishes she didn't grow up in front of the camera. Not that she'd take back her career — she just wishes her critical development did not happen in front of the public eye.

She opened up to Elle in an interview that will hit stands on March 25 about her career, and she said that, "There are all these actresses who have emerged in the last year or two, and they get to emerge as this complete human being. And I'm so jealous!" She didn't specifically say who they were, but it can probably be inferred that she may be alluding to J. Law...? Jealousy aside, she has such a solid career, surely this jealousy is in jest, and if not in jest, then definitely not about her career path.

She went on to say: "I remember reading this thing that Elizabeth Taylor wrote [...] She had her first kiss in character. On a movie set. It really struck me. I don't know how or why, but I had this sense that if I wasn't really careful, that could be me: that my first kiss could be in somebody else's clothes. And my experiences could all belong to someone else."

But for someone who grew up in the public eye, she seems like she's come out the other end of the Hollywood cannon with an impeccable amount of finesse and gusto. Not to mention, she even studied and Brown and Oxford (smart lady!), and her new movie, Noah, directed by Darren Aronofsky, is going to hit movie theaters on March 28.

So she's turned out pretty a-okay, yeah? But still, some actresses just want human childhoods, ya know?
