What Would A Khal Drogo Return Mean For 'GoT'?

Fans of Game of Thrones are losing it over the hugely popular fan theory that Khal Drogo will be resurrected Jon Snow-style in Season 7 of the fantasy-drama series. While it's a nice idea, I'm not sure Khal Drogo returning to Game of Thrones would mean good things for our friends in the Seven Kingdoms, or even if it's all that likely. Let's not forget that this theory was brought on mainly by the Instagram account of the actor who plays Drogo, Jason Momoa, mostly because every timehe writes something GoT-related, he adds the hashtag, #ALOHADROGO like he wants us all to get these crazy ideas. Meanwhile he has also posted images of traveling in the two places GoT has used for filming in the past, Ireland and Spain, which is also very suspicious, but not exactly confirmation. Last we saw Drogo, he was dead as a doornail, and also, he's been dead for years now! When Jon got his haircut and life back via Melisandre, his body was still (ew!) fresh, and the same goes for Beric Dondarrion's body every time the Brotherhood Without Banners brought him back. There's got to be either super duper awesome magic or lasting damage that goes along with such a long wait for resurrection. How could he return?

OK, but for the sake of theorizing, let's say Drogo does return. How would Season 7 proceed with this hugely important character back in the realm of the living? The way I see it, if Drogo were to come back, it would either mean something totally awesome for Team Daenerys, or something really terrible. I'm not so sure there's a middle ground on this one, because resurrection is serious business.

But let's say all that is settled, and Drogo coming back is a good thing, because starting with the positive is always nice. In this case, the former Khal could become the long-awaited Azor Ahai. This theory brought to us by redditor MrMasochist points out that the Melisandre and Mirri Maz Durr's individual prophesies could hint that Drogo, not Jon Snow, is the long awaited prince who will save the world from a forever winter.

To refresh your memory, Melisandre's prophecy stated, "When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.” This is mostly true in the series right now: Cersei made a red star bleed when she murdered everyone at the Sept, the darkness has gathered now that the Wall is about to broken down by White Walkers, and Drogo's body was burned in a smoky fire which awoke dragons. So, this theory could totally point to Drogo.

Meanwhile, Mirri's prophecy at first glance seemed to imply that Daenerys would never see her brooding man hunk again, but it could actually mean quite the opposite. Specifically, Mirri said the reunion of the couple would go down, "When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and the mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child." All of these things could happen, based on both the HBO series and a book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series it's based on, A Dance with Dragons: things are definitely changing in both the West and the East, the Dothraki Sea has dried, Cersei's henchmen FrankenMountain could be defeated in Season 7 (it's about time), and in Khaleesi's final chapter, we learn her "moon blood" has returned. If these things are all possible, then Drogo could totally be back, maybe as Azor Ahai?

That said, we've also got to think about the negatives of Drogo coming back, which, if we're completely honest with ourselves, are very real because Drogo was kind of a jerk. How is this former Khal going to deal with his once very docile wife running an army larger than anything he's ever seen? He's an alpha male if I've seen one, so how is he going to handle playing second fiddle to Daenerys? My guess is he might not be incredibly amenable to either of these situations. If Drogo hadn't died, Khaleesi would have never become the strong and take-no-prisoners Mother of Dragons. Who knows what sort of havoc he could wreak for Dany and her crew?

Honestly, the possibility that Khal Drogo could return is totally 50/50. Would Momoa really leak something so important to the show's plot? Who knows. Things seemed to have lined up pretty perfectly during the finale episode — everyone's getting set up their various courses to take over Westeros. A wrench in the works is definitely GoT-style, and the return of Khal Drogo might be just the wrench the show needs.
