The Live-Action 'BATB' Finally Shows The Furniture

Disney is inviting fans to be their guest with the upcoming live-action release of the tale as old as time, Beauty And The Beast. Between Dan Stevens transforming into the Beast, Emma Watson as Belle, and Lumiére and Cogsworth being voiced by the talents of Ewan McGregor and Ian McKellen, it certainly sounds like a dinner worth attending. As with any reimagining of a classic, going into this film does give me reason to pause. But it's not because of the casting or even the writing and directing — it's because of the animation. From the moment they announced the live-action reboot the only thing that has been on my mind is: how are they going to animate the enchanted objects? If anyone out there has had the same concern, we may finally have our answer.

In the wake of the 25th Anniversary release of the original animated film, Disney has provided fans with behind-the-scenes footage of the upcoming live-action film. The exclusive sneak peak takes fans through everything from the live-action film's first official table read with the cast to addressing the ways in which they're going about retelling the story. In this sneak peak of the Blu-Ray and Digital HD special feature, a brief look at the enchanted objects is finally revealed. At the 35-second mark, we can see a quick glimpse of both Lumiére and Cogsworth.

That short flash of the beloved characters makes it clear that this live-action film is not letting go of the traditional look and feel of how they were described. While they may not appear as friendly as the dancing animated characters you remember, the reimagined candlestick and clock hold on to their rustic appearance tailored after the animated Castle's original baroque-era design. As Cogsworth once pointed out, "If it ain't baroque, don't fix it."

And this is just the beginning. We might not yet have met Mrs. Potts (voiced by Emma Thompson) or Plumette (voiced by Gugu Mbatha-Raw), but, as soon as we see them come to life together, and we hear the classic tunes, I have a feeling that all will feel right. From this image alone, I can even see some Oscar nominations for design in their future.
