This Station Played WHAT for 18 Hours?!
Look, we're not denying that Nelly's "Hot In Herre" was a totally awesome song back in the day, but you've got to admit — this is strange. According to a post on Reddit, a radio station in California's Bay Area has been playing Nelly's "Hot in Herre" on repeat for over 18 hours, and no one knows why. It's still going! Here's a livestream of the station, Latino Mix 105.7.
So, is this just someone who really loves Nelly? Is a jilted employee playing a prank that no one's been able to crack yet? As one Redditor pointed out, the practice of playing a single song over and over is called "stunting," and it "is usually done prior to a MAJOR format change to draw attention." This certainly has drawn attention, so it's possible this is the case.
Whatever the reasoning, we've gotta say: This is really a great commentary on how repetitive radio stations are in the first place. You know the only reason you can sing all the lyrics to Pharrell William’s "Happy" or Katy Perry’s "Dark Horse" is the fact that they have been among the top 10 songs that play on every single station over and over. It’s similar to how radio stations went from actually informing us about music to taking the hundredth request to play One Direction's "Story of My Life" (though, I'll admit: one of those requests maybe came from me because One Direction is my guilty pleasure.) This station just took it to the extreme.
That said...Nelly? On repeat? For over 18 hours?! Come on, guys — this is 2014. We can do better than this!
Not everyone is in the party mood, especially if they’re listening to the radio on their way to and from work or if they’re just taking a drive to the mall. I would have been willing to listen to these songs for maybe 17 hours, and 18 if I really had to:
A little bit upbeat but also chill at the beginning. I could listen to this song over and over again like a Nelly and Tim McGraw collaboration. Oh… wait. But remember when Feel So Close was used as the song in the AT&T HTC One X smart phone commercial, where the guy runs forever and ends up in Rio Vista? It kind of made us want to get up off the couch and wipe off the chip crumbs from our pants, almost made us want to buy that phone, but mostly made us want to listen to Harris on repeat.
Avicii will forever be the best, and, with all the offense (because I hate the term "no offense"), it's so much better than Nelly. This song might not go down in history, and the people of my generation may not say “Oh yeah, that Avicii song was great,” at our college reunions like they might with Nelly’s song, but if we’re talking quality here…
Sometimes you really just need a nice, feel good song to get you going, and this is exactly the one. 18 hours, you say? I’m ready.
23 – Mike Will Made It ft. Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa & Juicy J
If we really had to go into this territory, this song would be preferable. Nelly’s song might have a similar vibe to it, but the difference is that it’s a classic that everyone knows. You don’t want to ruin a classic “dance with my girls in a circle” song like "Hot In Herre."

I know some of you are already running, because you’re like “Country music for over 18 hours? Hell no." But, trust me when I say that I understand. Yes, I once disliked country music too, but this song will actually make you like country music. That, "Wagon Wheel," "Cruise," (the version without Nelly), and "Knee Deep."

There’s nothing better than the sound of Alex Ebert and Jade Castrinos talking about the first time they met in the midst of this song that gives you all the warm fuzzies inside. “Do you remember that day you fell outta my window? “I sure do. You came jumping out after me.” “Well, you fell on the concrete, nearly broke your ass, and you were bleeding all over the place, and I rushed you out to the hospital, you remember that?” Nothing says love better than that.
