The Sexiest Unisex Fragrance Ever?

by Tori Telfer

Why do we wear perfume? Without delving too far into the psychology of the thing, it's probably fair to say that we dab our bare skin with floral water and exotic oils and animal musk to be a little bit more alluring. At a very basic level, perfume is designed to attract. You'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, but you'll catch better things than flies with Chanel No. 5.

No surprise, then, that two French girls have attempted to make the world's most directly sexy perfume yet. Creators Pauline Rochas and Carole Beaupré, who run the Brooklyn-based photography and still-life studio Coolife, threw an exhibit of erotic photography in October 2013, called ATTACHé, which led them to think about scent, sensuality, and all the delicious connections therein. They subsequently channeled all of that thinking into Le Premier Parfum, a scent that supposedly acts as an aphrodisiac.

The technicalities behind all this sex appeal? The perfume's essential oils were chosen because they corresponded to the body's second chakra, the source of all things sensual and passionate. And you won't find a messy, overwhelming blend of fragrances designed to batter potential mates into olfactory submission — it's composed of a mere seven notes. Vogue reports that four of those are ylang ylang, sandalwood, patchouli, and something illicit/scientific-sounding called resinous labdanum, creating a scent that's woodsy, oriental, and floral. In other words, all things to all people — or one thing for one very special person?

The girls told W Magazine that when their friends wear the perfume, they report more dates than they've ever had before. Guys, girls, beware: if Le Premier Parfum is anything like Rochas and Beaupré promise, it may also be le final parfum (slightly incorrect French, but go with it) that you'll ever need, too.
