There May Be An Emma Roberts Cameo In 'AHS' S6

While American Horror Story tells a different story with different characters every season, fans keep coming back because they've fallen in love with the show's unique tone and the accomplished cast that showrunner Ryan Murphy manages to get back together every season. While the roster has some changes between seasons and some cast members have joined or left the show (Oh, how I miss you Jessica Lange), it's always fun to see which familiar face will be playing a wildly different role from season to season. One Ryan Murphy regular, however, is missing from the Season 6 cast list — but that doesn't necessarily mean she won't be able to stop by. As the premiere grows closer, fans are wondering if Emma Roberts will be in American Horror Story Season 6.

Emma Roberts was a welcome presence in Seasons 3 & 4, but was, unfortunately, absent from American Horror Story during its stay in the Hotel Cortez during Season 5. Fortunately, those looking for Emma Roberts to make an appearance in a Murphy-created horror series were still able to tune into Scream Queens on Fox, even though it isn't quite the same. Roberts was supposed to be in AHS: Hotel, but plans fell through. Fortunately, fans may see her in Season 6, according to an interview she did with Yahoo in December 2015. "Ryan and I said next season we’ll do something amazing and devilish," she told the outlet. "Next season I want to work with Lady Gaga for sure."

While it seems Roberts is planning to be in AHS Season 6, there's no telling who she'll be, but I have some guesses.

Emma Roberts Could Return As A Familiar Face

During Season 4, the separate worlds of American Horror Story began to connect with each other. This was initially marked by the appearance of the character Pepper in Freak Show, with actor Naomi Grossman reprising her role from Asylum. Freak Show featured visits from several other Asylum characters, including American Horror Story regular Lily Rabe as Sister Mary Eunice. Hotel similarly featured cameos from Gabourey Sidibe as Queenie from Coven and even Sarah Paulson reprising her role as Billie Dean Howard from the very first season. Now that American Horror Story has gotten so cameo-friendly, it wouldn't be unrealistic to see either of Roberts' old characters, Madison Montgomery or Maggie Esmerelda, make an appearance in AHS Season 6.

She Could Play A Whole New Character

Part of the joy of American Horror Story is that all of the show's actors are often stretched beyond their "types" and play exceptionally different roles each season. While she's not featured as a major cast member, the door is still open for Emma Roberts to briefly stop in and play a new character. AHS has even done this before, by having alum Lily Rabe and John Carroll Lynch stop by briefly in Season 5 to play the ghosts of Aileen Wournos and John Wayne Gacy. Perhaps Emma Roberts will show up for an episode as a brief, but important, presence in the show.

She Could Play Chanel Oberlin of Scream Queens

There's no hint that American Horror Story will cross over with Scream Queens any time soon, but there also aren't any hints about anything in particular regarding American Horror Story Season 6 right now. Both shows are horror series created by Ryan Murphy featuring Emma Roberts in leading roles, and although AHS deals with supernatural and Scream Queens deals simply with slashers, it wouldn't be that far beyond these two shows to crossover. While being slightly different, they are both similarly campy and they're even written and produced by the same person. It's not likely, but it would certainly be amazing to see Chanel Oberlin throw immeasurable amounts of shade through whatever world American Horror Story creates.

No matter what form Roberts chooses to return in, AHS fans will be delighted to have her on their television screens no matter the context. Should Roberts be unable to appear in AHS Season 6 like she was in Season 5, Ryan Murphy fans will still be able to see her work with the master of television horror in Season 2 of Scream Queens. While there is still a great deal of mystery around American Horror Story 6 — where it will be set, who the characters will be, what the plot is — many answers will be revealed when it premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. ET.
