Marriage is nothing if not compromise — and a lot of logistics. When polar opposites get married for a week in a new BuzzFeed video, the faux couple unearth some truths about how hard it is to coordinate sleep schedules, meals, and finding time for romance when you're not exactly two peas in a pod.
The idea that "opposites attract" has been an oft-repeated legend in relationship lore. If you weren't convinced by Paula Abdul that even a cartoon cat and a human lady can make it work, then let science do it for you. One study found that couples are frequently drawn to one another because they have different immunity genes, so in a sense, they are genetic opposites. The logic is that if they mate, their offspring are likely to have a better chance of surviving in the world with their combined array of double helices. However, this doesn't mean that folks with different politics or life philosophies are going to be well matched.
Another study, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, found that similarities and not differences are the key to keeping couples together, particularly when it comes to core values. So do opposites really attract? It depends what you mean by opposites I guess.
