The 10 Funniest 'Whose Line' Moments Ever

by Mallory Schlossberg

Everyone's favorite comedy showcase, Whose Line Is It Anyway, returns Friday, March 21 at 8:30 PM on the CW. The show has actually been around, in some form or another, for the past 27 years. In 1987, it began as a radio show in the U.K., before making the transition over to television in 1988. Ten years later, the popular American version aired on ABC, featuring comedian Drew Carey as host and Wayne Brady, Ryan Stiles, and Colin Mochrie as regular cast members. The show enjoyed an incredibly successful run through 2004. In 2005, the show transitioned over to ABC Family, where it stayed for another year. Last summer, the CW decided to revamp with the show, with Aisha Tyler as host. Brady, Mochrie, and Stiles remain its comedic stars.

As you remember from childhood, what makes this show so freaking funny is that everything's made up on the spot. It's improv! Actually, it's a pseudo improv competition ("everything's made up and the points don't matter!") with games and challenges, sometimes incorporating props, voiceovers, and music.

This kind of improv is called "short form improv," and while the improv it is markedly different from the long form improv popularized by the Upright Citizens' Brigade, the comedy behemoth has brought extemporized comedy to the forefront of entertainment.

Plus, it's funny as hell. Here are some of the best moments from the show's history:

In this hilarious song about breaking up with somebody, watch for Colin Mochrie at the end.

The Fish Head

This dating service video using hats is pretty par for the course for Whose Line (pretty damn funny) but Greg Proops takes it to the next level.
