All 'GG' Rory 'Shippers May Get Closure Soon

by S. Atkinson

Whether you count yourself as Team Dean (soft n' fuzzy), Team Jess (super intellectual), or Team Logan (because what's wrong with wanting to have fun all the time?) — or you think such alliances are petty and superficial and don't represent the rich tapestry of human experience and the potential of character — you'll all be happy. US Weekly recently got Alexis Bledel talking on the subject of which boyfriend Rory will end up with in the Gilmore Girls revival, and, while she wasn't able to give any concrete answers on that topic, she did confirm that there won't be a dissatisfied Netflix customer in the house.

When Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) spoke to the magazine, she told them: "I think there is satisfying closure for any fans of any of the three couples that tend to get some attention, but they’re very different interactions. I would say each one of them [gets] closure in a different way."

After nine long years without the Gilmore Girls, and a fairly open-ended close to the last season that aired, we're very much in need of some closure — and it's good to hear that they're not just going to endlessly spin out the series forever. Sure, sure, I'd like them to do that, too, but, let's be real, it's not great for narrative structure.

But how exactly could they give us all closure while only allowing Rory to end up with one of the characters? One unlikely option would show her dating all three of her ex-boyfriends again over the course of the four episodes, perhaps via Rory beginning the show dating one, being unfaithful to him with a second ex-boyfriend (very Sex And The City Season 3 Carrie Bradshaw), and then, once everything goes wrong, dating a third and final ex-boyfriend who she ends up with. But this option doesn't seem very Rory.

A more likely, if controversial option, from one Bustle editor is that the real reason all of Rory's exes turn up in the same year is because she has an Archie comics-like dream sequence about how her life would have turned out if she’d ended up with each one of them. This does seem a deft — if anticlimactic — way of resolving Rory's romantic fate. This way we'd all get to see why the chosen Mr Right for Rory (Mr Rory?) was right for her and how the others weren't.

So sure. Like everyone else on the planet, I'm Team Jess for the win. But I'm open to being convinced otherwise, if an oddly-realistic dream sequence can sway me.
