As amazing as they look wearing period pieces from early-20th century England, the cast of Downton Abbey sure knows how to pull it together for a 2016 red carpet.
The Emmys is always a big night for Downton Abbey — the show won 14 awards for its first six seasons, and is nominated for 10 more tonight. After seven years on the air, Downton Abbey aired its final episode in March, so this is the last awards ceremony that any of the ladies of the Abbey will walk the red carpet together as a cast.
"I'm thrilled and amazed and honored that the show has been so generously recognized in its final year," the show's creator, writer and producer Julian Fellowes said in a statement. "It's a wonderful goodbye for everyone involved."
Of course, even on such a bittersweet evening, the ladies of the Abbey didn't disappoint.
Joanne Frogatt, aka maid Anna Bates, was the first to arrive on the carpet in a simple black Stella McCartney strapless dress with peek-a-boo lace and a stunning train. She accessorized the look with a sparkly black clutch and some major black diamond drop earrings. She cleans up nicely! (Yes, the pun was intended.)
Lady Laura, née Michelle Dockery, looked stunning in a black and white tiered dress with a black belt cinched at the waist. The dress is a bit more of a risk than what we're used to seeing on Dockery, which I, for one, appreciate. She paired the look with strappy black heels and hair and makeup reminiscent of some serious old school glamour. It's very 1920s-meets-2016, and it's seriously working.
Laura Carmiachael gave us a pop of color in a yellow and pink bow-tied getup, and the internet was not feeling it.
