How To Find A Donald Trump Debate Viewing Party

by Abby Johnston

It's time for the Super Bowl of elections. The 2016 presidential debates are upon us, in which the Republican and Democratic nominees will face off in the final stretch until November. And much like its football counterpart, the supporters of various candidates tend to flock together to root for their preferred team. This won't make for a lot of intellectual challenges, but at least it keeps things friendly. So if you're falling in with the Republican nominee, this is how you can find a Donald Trump debate viewing party near you.

Your best bet is to scrounge the Facebook accounts of your local Republican Party chapter to find like-minded voters with whom to watch the debate. For example, the Travis County Republican Party (where I live in Austin) posts about local debates, so you could probably expect your local chapter to do something similar for the biggest debates of the season. Just look for your county's Republican Party chapter.

There is also a currently empty page titled "Debate Watching Party RSVP" on Trump's site in the press release section, but there could be more information for Trump-sanctioned watch parties near you as we get closer to the first debate on Sept. 26 and the subsequent three debates throughout October.

You can always count on big cities to have debate watch parties in bars, but there are also some movie theaters that participate in watch parties. The Alamo Drafthouse, for example, which started in Texas (I know, a lot of Texas pride here today), is hosting watch parties at locations across the country, though it isn't a candidate-specific affair. Check with your local movie theaters to see if you can watch the debate on the big screen.

At the very least, you can always host your own Trump debate viewing party. The debates will be live streamed on several cable news networks. Buy some snacks, invite some friends over, and let the good times roll.

After the first debate, there will be two others. The second debate will be Oct. 9 in St. Louis, and the third and final debate will be Oct. 19. There will also be a vice presidential debate on Oct. 4 in Virginia, if you'd like to see Mike Pence and Tim Kaine square off. One of them is going to be second in command, after all. Either way, it should be pretty easy to find a Trump debate viewing party near you — and if all else fails, you can host your own.
