Jolie's Lawyer Releases Statement On Divorce

by Nicole Pomarico

Tuesday morning brought us some of the saddest news ever: After 12 years together, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are getting divorced. Shortly after the news broke on TMZ, Jolie's lawyer confirmed the news, according to the Associated Press, and as much as I don't want to believe it, it's true. Jolie's lawyer, Robert Offer, released a statement regarding the divorce to Reuters, and it sounds like this is the only statement we'll be getting from the 41-year-old actor.

The statement reads: "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."

Update: Pitt has also new released a statement. He told People: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

Earlier: The information available on Jolie and Pitt's split is pretty sparse. The original TMZ report didn't provide much insight into what could have happened to cause their once happy marriage to go sour, and as a totally heartbroken fan, I've been clamoring for more info on what went wrong. Obviously, the only way to find out for sure was from the people involved themselves, and based on the statement from Jolie's lawyer, it sounds like that probably won't be happening. Pitt could release a statement of his own, but it doesn't sound like a Jolie will and it sounds unlikely that they'll release one jointly if Jolie won't be commenting. Guess we'll all just have to wallow in our sadness for now.
