When Did Brad Pitt Last Talk About Angelina Jolie?

by Amy Mackelden

Just when you thought your Tuesday was going to be routine, rumors hit the internet that Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. The couple got married in France in 2014, and have six children together. Allegedly, Jolie filed for divorce on Monday citing irreconcilable differences, with TMZ reporting custody is her main concern, and that there is no "third person" involved. The famous couple often appeared on red carpets together, and spoke frequently about each other during interviews. So when did Brad Pitt last talk about Angelina Jolie?

Update: Jolie's lawyer has confirmed that she did in fact file for divorce from Pitt in a statement to Reuters: "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time," said Robert Offer, according to the newswire.

Update 2: Brad Pitt has released a statement to PEOPLE confirming the news: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

Perhaps, most notably, a profile of Pitt by Marlon James in The NY Times, which was published in the print edition of their T magazine on Sept 11, 2016, made absolutely no mention whatsoever of Jolie or the family. A disclaimer at the bottom of the article says that "James avoided inquiring about Angelina Jolie Pitt or their children," because he wanted to find out Pitt's thoughts on politics, religion, and his childhood. Following reports that Jolie has filed for divorce from Pitt, with TMZ claiming the date of the couple's separation as Sept. 15, 2016, it could be that the actor did not want to discuss his home life in the interview.

While promoting By The Sea, in which Pitt starred alongside his wife, who also served as the director, Pitt gave several interviews regarding his marriage and family. In an interview with The Telegraph published on Nov. 28, 2015, Pitt spoke at length about Jolie, and it might be the last time he went into quite so much detail about his wife and partner of over 10 years. Pitt said,

I’m surprised how much our history — Angie’s and mine — means to me. That we have this story together. That we know each other. That we watch each other getting older, through amazing moments, joys, pains... It means so much to me.

Pitt's interview with The Telegraph took place almost a year ago, but the depth of his love for Jolie was incredibly evident, alongside his admiration for her as a director. Pitt also took the opportunity to discuss their family, which he summarized as "a lot of love, a lot of fighting, a lot of refereeing, a lot of teeth-brushing..." and despite describing home life as "chaos," the actor clearly had a lot of fondness for it.

Prior to his interview with The Telegraph, Pitt was interviewed alongside Jolie on The Today Show in early Nov. 2015, and the couple spoke at length about Jolie's health scare with cancer, and the enduring strength of their marriage. It's a heart-wrenching interview, particularly in light of the recent news that Jolie has filed for divorce, but fans of the couple will want to see what the pair had to say about each other.

Despite sad reports that Jolie and Pitt are to divorce, it's clear that both actors are committed to their children and to providing the best family environment possible.
