George Clooney & Angelina Jolie Are Friendly

by Daniela Cabrera

When it came to the news that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were divorcing, it seemed no one was immune to the shock. While some celebrities reacted via social media to the news, Pitt's BFF George Clooney learned of the Brangelina divorce live on CNN, and it could not have been more awkward or heartbreaking. I was a bit taken back that he admittedly had no idea about the news, because he and Pitt are known to be close friends. In light of the actor's reaction and his relationship with Pitt, I needed to know if Clooney is also friends with Jolie.

The CNN anchor who asked Clooney about the divorce news said that he was doing so because the actor is "friends with both of them." Clooney immediately put on a concerned face, and replied, "I feel very sorry then. That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that. That's the first I've heard of it."

His response wasn't overly personal, but that was probably due to the fact that he was caught off guard by the news; he certainly seemed to be shocked.

Now, regarding their friendship, Clooney and Jolie are friendly with each other, if only because it's an inevitable thing to happen with the woman who's married to one of your closest friends. Throughout the years, the two have spoken positively about each other. In 2014, Entertainment Tonight's Nancy O'Dell caught up with Jolie at the Maleficent premiere and asked her, "All right, one question... I just want to know, I know George (Clooney) is a friend. So of course the question comes, who's going to get married first — is it going to be you guys, or George?" Jolie smiled and answered, "Probably George."

In a twist, Jolie and Pitt actually secretly married in August 2014, a month before Clooney and Amal Alamuddin wed. Clooney had only nice words to say about their marriage and told Us at the time, "How great is that?! I'm really happy for Brad and Angie and their whole family."

Unfortunately, stories have been reported claiming rumors of a "catfight" between Jolie and Alamuddin. OK! reported that Alamuddin was determined to fix her "feud" with Jolie for the sake of their husbands and thought they should be BFFs. I know. Take it all with a grain of salt. In fact, the two women have a lot in common in working with the United Nations and other humanitarian efforts.

Based on his surprised reaction, Pitt, Clooney and their families might have been out of touch recently, but that doesn't take away from their previous mutual respect and friendship.
