While it's true that the majority of the Secrets and Lies Season 2 premiere was centered around the latest murder, that wasn't the only mystery to bubble its way to the surface. I'm referring, of course, to Warner matriarch, who is the only member of the family we have yet to meet. Originally, I thought (like I'm sure many of you did) that she had passed away, which would explain her absence not only in the present day, but in all of the flashbacks as well. However, that turned out not to be the case because in the middle of Kate's funeral, Patrick asked if anyone had been to see her since all of this happened. "It's not like she's dead," he said. But if that's the case, then where is Eric's mom on Secrets and Lies ?
I mean, you'd think she would want to be there for her son after losing his wife so suddenly, so what could possibly be her excuse for not being there? My first instinct is that she may have been in a terrible accident, which caused her to be put into a coma and she's been that way ever since. That would explain her strange absence as well as why the mention of her name seems to bring them so much sadness.
Another part of me thought that maybe she'd been a terrible mother that they no longer wanted to be around anymore. But then their dad's speech at Thanksgiving wouldn't make any sense. During his toast, John had mentioned how much he wished their mom could be there to see them all so happy. So something must be preventing her from being with them, not out of anyone's choice, but rather due to unfortunately circumstances. Hence why I think the coma theory feels like the most likely option. I'm sure as the season progresses we'll learn more information about exactly what happened, but until that time comes, your guess is as good as mine.
