Pharrell Needs A Good Name For His Second Baby

by Maitri Suhas

A certain singer/producer and his wife are about to be very "Happy" all over again. Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh are expecting their second child, according to E! News. They're adding to their family of three, and they have a lot to live up to when it comes to baby names: Williams and Lasichanh's son is named Rocket Ayer Williams. You read that right.

Rocket was born in 2008, and Williams told Oprah Winfrey in an interview in 2014 the reason he and then-girlfriend Lasichanh chose such a unique name: both to pay tribute to Williams' heroes and to give their son something to aspire to. "In the same way the Indians named their children after a force or animal or element, we named him after a man-made machine that was meant to go up, meant to ascend," he told Oprah. He also explained that it was a nod to Elton John's "Rocket Man," Stevie Wonder's "Rocket Love" and Herbie Hancock's "Rock It," Williams' favorite musicians. Rocket's middle name, Ayer, comes from Roy Ayers.

Fair enough. But now the bar is set. You can't name your second kid Jamie or Alex when your first kid's name is Rocket. If Williams and Lasichanh want to come up with a coordinating name, I think Pocket sounds pretty cute. But if they're looking for another aspirational noun that signifies reaching the stars, I personally would suggest Enterprise or Voyager, partially because I'm a Star Trek fan, but it would definitely continue the theme.

There's always Star, which isn't that far-fetched for a name and works for any gender. I'd even throw Herbie, Stevie, and Elton into the mix, because those are all incredible names. They could also name their new baby Big Hat after Williams' enormous hat, because if anything is "ascending," it was that topper.

Whatever Williams and Lasichanh settle on, they are sure to be over the moon when their new baby comes along. Williams even wrote a children's book last year aptly titled Happy! He told People at the time, "My hope is that this book inspires a child's imagination and creativity and that it teaches the importance of being happy and true to yourself." Congratulations to Williams, Lasichanh, and Rocket as they welcome their new addition!
