Meet 'The Voice's 1st Country Singer On Team Miley

by Jessica Molinari

Miley's calling dibs! Khaliya Kimberlie became the newest member of Team Miley after performing Kelsea Ballerini's "Dibs" during The Voice Blind Auditions. It seems strange that an aspiring country artist wouldn't choose to join Team Blake if he turned around (which he did), but it was the right choice for Kimberlie. While Kimberlie would've been great on Team Blake, she has a certain flair about her that is perfect for Team Miley. Miley will help Kimberlie bring out that personality during her performances while also finessing her country talents. The two really are the perfect pair.

With a talent like hers, it's hard to believe that Kimberlie is only 16. Her mature sound matches that of performers twice her age. With a sound like that, she must train hardcore and perform all the time, right? Wrong. Kimberlie grew up on a Native American reservation in New Mexico where musical opportunities were limited. In order to perform, her parents had to drive her outside of the reservation boundaries. Thankfully, Kimberlie's parents are extremely supportive of her career and would do just that. By performing at local bars, Kimberlie gained the experience and confidence she needed to perform on The Voice stage.

Now, you may be thinking, what can Miley provide to this aspiring country singer? Well, a lot actually. Her father is Billy Ray Cyrus and her godmother is Dolly Parton, so clearly she was surrounded by quite a bit of country growing up. Miley will be able to pass down all she learned from these notable country stars to Kimberlie. In addition, she'll be able to help the 16-year-old find her sound as an artist. Kimberlie has a ton of potential and Miley will help her tap into that potential. With Miley as her coach, mentor, and friend, Kimberlie's talent will reach a level she's never dreamed of—and I for one can't wait to watch her transformation.
