'SNL' Has Found Their New Donald Trump Actor

by Emily Lackey

Tuning in to the actual events surrounding the 2016 election is great and all, but, when it comes down to what I really want to be watching, it’s Saturday Night Live’s coverage of the 2016 election. And as the new season is ramping up to start, one of the questions on my mind has been who will play Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live this election season? If you’ve been asking yourself the same thing, then you are in luck. It was announced on Wednesday that very talented Alec Baldwin will be playing Trump in the season opener. But will Baldwin play Trump for the entire season?

If you’re hoping that this answer is yes, you are in luck. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin will be playing the famous businessman, reality star, and now politician who is shaking up this election all season long. Even though Baldwin has never played Trump before, he’s had his fair share of time on the SNL stage, playing a number of different characters and killing just about every impersonation he has tried.

That’s why it was no surprise that, when the promotional clip for the season premiere included a clip of Baldwin in full Trump regalia, he looks like a total natural as the infamous presidential candidate. Lip pout and all. It’s clear from this teaser alone that Baldwin is more than prepared to take on this iconic and long-running role during the election season.

There have been many Saturday Night Live stars who have played Trump in the past, including Taran Killam and Darrell Hammond, but bringing in an SNL favorite to take on the role during this momentous election season seems like the right move to me. I mean, just look at the guy. He looks more than prepared — and more than perfect — to take on this role of a lifetime.
