The Hoboken Train Crash Causes

by Bronwyn Isaac

On Thursday morning a NJ Transit commuter train crashed into a station in Hoboken, New Jersey. According to current reports, three people were killed and more than 100 were injured. While we wait for unfolding details the question looms: was the Hoboken train crash an act of terrorism? Luckily, the initial investigation shows now links to terrorism.

A report from ABC 7 News reveals the crashing car was train number 1614 on the Pascack Valley line which was due to arrive in Hoboken at 8:43 from Spring Valley. Then, at approximately 8:59 the car came crashing into the station. In wake of the crash the New Jersey EMS has reported over 100 patients. According to the latest reports, most of the injuries were either suffered by passengers riding in the first car, or those hit by debris in the station. Many passengers riding in the second car were able to break out before the crash fully hit.

At this point all service to the Hoboken station is canceled, but the PATH tickets are being accepted by New Jersey buses, NJ transit light rail and NY Waterway Ferry in lieu of the emergency. The closing of Hoboken affects many people as the station averages more than 15,000 boardings a week. While it's hard to not wonder whether the crash was possibly an act of terrorism, the latest investigations indicate that it was not such an act.

However, this still leaves us wondering what exactly caused this tragedy.
