Iggy Azalea Explains Why Her Album Is Delayed

I tend to get a little grumpy when celebrities don't do what they say they will, but, weirdly, all is forgiven if they just come clean and tell me why something happened. That's exactly how I feel about Iggy Azalea explaining why she delayed her album, i.e. because her personal life was falling apart. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not happy that bad things happened to the 24-year old artist. I just find it really refreshing that she was honest and open about what she's going through. She's a human being who deserves her privacy when she wants it, so we as her fans aren't entitled to any information about her personal life. That makes anything she does choose to share all the more awesome.

Azalea's sophomore album, Digital Distortion , was initially set for release in July 2016, but it's been pushed back to January 2017 due to some very unforeseeable changes in her home life. I'm referring, of course, to the fact that Azalea and her then-fiancé Nick Young broke up. After their break-up, it came out that Young's ex-girlfriend, Keonna Green, was pregnant with his child, their second together. Yeah, that's about as good a reason as I can think of for needing to retool your album a bit.

As Azalea told People in an interview on Thursday, "I needed a lot of time. I mean, you wake up one morning and your fiancé is having a baby with someone else, you're going to need some time, right?" Um yeah, that might be the understatement of the century. But it wasn't just about taking that necessary time to take care of herself; it was also about the album itself.

I just kind of felt like, on top of me needing the personal time, then feeling, 'OK, I'm single now. I want to have sexy songs. I want to say stuff about being single. I obviously didn't write that on my [original] album because when I wrote it I was about to get married… I don't want to go and promote my album and get asked about my relationship that has just crumbled.

I gotta say, I really love that answer. I think it really humanizes Azalea, because it's a reminder that celebrities are people too. They need time to get over setbacks and really narrow down who they are and what they want to say. I don't know about you guys, but that feels very familiar to me. So, not only am I now emotionally vibing with Iggy Azalea as a human being, but I'm also reassured that her album, when it does come out, is going to be just as brutally honest as this statement.
