Is The Weeknd's Brad Pitt Shoutout More Than That?

by Maitri Suhas

In his new song "Starboy" (from his album with the same name), The Weeknd namechecks a certain actor who's embroiled in a very public divorce from Angelina Jolie. The reference seems random, but is it? Do The Weeknd and Brad Pitt know each other?

It doesn't look like it, from an internet investigation, but then again, the singer is so incredibly private that it could still be a possibility. The line from "Starboy" that calls Pitt by name goes as follows: "Let a n*gga Brad Pitt/ Legend of the fall took the year like a bandit."

Bustle's Allyson Koerner pondered what exactly the namedrop could mean: Did The Weeknd drop "Starboy" when he did to coincide with Pitt and Jolie's divorce? Or was his simply paying homage to 1994, the year that Pitt launched to superstardom with his film Legends Of The Fall and Interview With A Vampire?

But it doesn't seem like The Weeknd is actually acquainted with Pitt, and there are no photos out there of the two of them together. While The Weeknd does tend to be pretty private, what we do know of his friendships is that he's dating Bella Hadid, is openly good friends and collaborators with his fellow Toronto native Drake. He's also apparently buddy-buddy with Canada's number one crush, his own Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — the singer was a guest at the Canada 2020 event in Washington. But as far as The Weeknd and Brad Pitt go, it seems like the only connection they have is The Weeknd's fanboy respect of Pitt.

For now, there's no evidence that the singer and actor are friends, but maybe the shoutout will catch Pitt's attention and a friendship will bloom.
