The internet is responsible for a host of silly, made up holidays, and latest in line is #NationalBoyfriendDay. The trending hashtag is currently flooding the Twittersphere, inspiring love, depression, and a heaping dose of well-deserved sarcasm from users young and old.

Ranking somewhere between Steak And BJ Day and International Men's Day, National Boyfriend Day is definitely a day to celebrate dudes. I'll get over my feminist snark and play along to concede that yes, boyfriends do deserve being celebrated. Everyone should be appreciated, and sometimes these cutesy online holidays give folks a chance to shout out their S.O. in a sweet way. I mean, if I can give props to my cat on National Cat Day or express my devotion to dairy on National Cheese Day, then why the hell can't I take a few moments to drop a post about my BF?

The true upside to National Boyfriend Day, however, is the chance women in particular have to celebrate flying solo — and mock the sexist idea that if you don't have a boyfriend, you're somehow less than. Cue a ton of GIFs featuring wine and chocolates, because the cliches about single ladies know no bounds.
