This 'Southern Charm' Gal Is Descendant of A VP

by Kristie Rohwedder

Southern Charm’s Kathryn Dennis isn’t one of the six main cast members, but that doesn’t mean she’s not a major part of the program. She ain't limited by the "main cast" and "supporting cast" labels! Shoot, she's going through a Southern Charm pregnancy scare on a TV show. As far as I'm concerned, lady is an honorary main cast member. So what do we know about Dennis? She's a model; a Southern "celebutante"; and, as maybe-baby daddy Thomas Ravenel says, a political scion. She has some serious family ties.

For starters, she is a descendant of John C. Calhoun. Yes, that John C. Calhoun. The seventh Vice President of the United States of America. Her middle initial is “C," which stands for, you guessed it, Calhoun.

"What do you mean 'a descendant?'" you ask. "That's kind of broad. PLEASE GIVE ME A MORE SPECIFIC ANSWER." Whoa, nelly. I'm not a genealogist, so I don't know her exact lineage. When I look at family trees, I go cross eyed. Sorry to let you down.

But I do know how she's related to another big deal politician! She’s the granddaughter of Rembert C. Dennis. His name isn't as recognizable as Calhoun's, but he was “one of the most influential legislators of his time” and did his thing for nearly 50 years. He served in the SC House of Representatives and the SC Senate.

Senate Barbie (yes, that is her nickname)'s grandfather was a Senator. I guess Senate ties run in the family?
