Justin Bieber Mimics This Famous Celebrity

by Emma Goddard

When pondering over Justin Bieber’s life decisions as I so often find myself doing on a daily basis, things like “naïve” and “delusional” often come to mind. The last thing I would ever think of — and I do mean ever — is how much he reminds me of the famous hunk of an actor, James Dean. Because he doesn't. Yet young Bieber seems to think the resemblance is there after sharing a picture of himself on Instagram, using the caption, “This is James Dean inspired. Don’t ask me if I smoke ciggys cuz I don’t,” and later posting a photo of Dean himself so we could see the photo he was mimicking. As if we needed that to remember the iconic shot from Rebel Without A Cause.

First, no. And second, why would Biebz even do this to himself in the first place? Celebrities are so often compared to other exremely famous individuals and even some of them seem to believe it. Yet they’re actually just doing a disservice to themselves considering there are just some people who will forever go down as icons in the pop culture world and should never be compared to other celebrities, as they are simply just legends. Plus, you’re just giving people like me even more of a reason to criticize you if we don’t actually think you look anything similar to Dean. Which you don't.

That’s almost like saying Kim Kardashian and Kate Upton should be compared to sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. Oh wait, that has actually happened already. This year, Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci called Kardashian the modern day Monroe while close pal and fiancée of the celebrity, Kanye West, also made this comment a few months prior, even slamming Upton and saying that she wasn’t Monroe.

Oddly enough, many seem to disagree considering the model has starred in many a Monroe-themed photo shoot and even graced the cover of Vanity Fair to celebrate the magazine’s 100 years. I know that West is likely just biased because he’s so blinded by love — actually blind because I don’t see the similarities between Kimmy and Monroe at all — but realistically Upton looks more like the deceased actress. They’re pretty much doppelgangers. Honestly though, no one will ever actually be Monroe, so can they just try to be the best versions of themselves?

Likewise, Heidi Montag and husband Spencer Pratt once compared Montag to both Britney Spears and Michael Jackson. Excuse me while I smash my face into my keyboard. This absolutely ridiculous comparison came after Pratt told host Jessi Cruickshank that Montag was “the new, modern-day, 2010 Michael Jackson,” and also stated, “Michael Jackson’s in heaven. The Holy Spirit now has extra Michael Jackson juice, so boom! For all we know Heidi gets possessed with some of that Michael Jackson divine spirit.” Okayyy.

And although I might secretly be a One Direction fan and would for sure marry Niall Horan, Harry Styles stating that the boy band’s fame was like that of The Beatles. He said, “Fame-wise, it’s probably even bigger… Stepping off the plane, the girls, the madness. It was exactly the same was when we got there – just 50 years earlier.” I feel like this statement is somewhat accurate as the boys truly do have a major fan following of screaming tween girls (and me), but it’s so much easier to attend concerts for 1D compared to a time when The Beatles throwing a concert was few and far between. Back then, that thing called the World Wide Web didn’t even exist, so I feel that the presence of The Beatles somewhere was a much bigger deal than it is to see a musician or band now. However, Styles also added, “None of us think we’re in the same league as them music-wise, We’d be total fools if we did,” which should deserve some sort of reward considering his ego isn’t as huge as a few other celebrities.

Honestly, it feel as if singers, actors and politicians alike have all been compared to certain icons at some point in their lives, but it would really be great if everyone could just stop. It’s like that one unfathomable moment that Tom Cruise was called out by Mark Wahlberg for comparing his work to a soldier in combat. Nope. Can everyone just do me a favor and be themselves for once?! Thanks.
