Trump Can't Deny These Lewd Comments Happened

by Maya Parthasarathy

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has frequently been caught up in controversy for his statements, with the most recent being his lewd comments about women from a 2005 hot mic tape. Plenty of clips of similar moments exist, but Trump denies them anyway in classic "Trump style." It seems strange that many of his denials of his own past words can be debunked just by going through his Twitter timeline. But, then again, it's difficult to be surprised by anything that comes out of his mouth anymore.

There are so many times Trump has supposedly forgotten about inappropriate things he's said — even when the evidence is sitting right in front of him. When Fox News' Megyn Kelly questioned him during a debate about sexist comments he's made about women in the past, including about Kelly herself, Trump denied the claims. But video and Twitter evidence show otherwise, including a tweet in which Trump calls Kelly a "bimbo."

In this day and age, pretty much any public (and private) statement is recordable. As the Republican presidential candidate, Trump is constantly in the public eye. It's unclear how he thinks he can say harmful, inappropriate things about women on the record and not get caught, but somehow he keeps doing it. And his loose relationship with the truth is concerning, especially considering fact-checkers found that Trump lies four times as often as Hillary Clinton, according to Politico.

Trump can deny his past sexist and lewd comments all he wants, but irrefutable evidence of him making them clearly exists. Here are some examples:

1. The Infamous 2005 Hot Mic Tape

That time when Trump's microphone worked and picked up a highly inappropriate conversation between him and Access Hollywood's Billy Bush. In the recording, he described kissing women without consent and bragged about he could supposedly "grab them by the p---y" without asking. He couldn't deny this one, but he did dismiss it as "locker room talk," which is almost just as bad.

2. Trump Lying About Seeing An Ad Featuring His Misogynistic Words

An anti-Trump super PAC called Our Principles PAC ran an advertisement that featured women reading sexist comments Trump has made. To ABC, Trump admitted he had seen the ad and instead of discussing his own words, criticized the super PAC, saying they had worked with famous #NeverTrump Republican Mitt Romney before. On the other hand, just minutes later, he told NBC he hadn't seen the ad. Trump couldn't have unseen the ad, so obviously he was lying to someone.

3. Trump On An Apprentice Contestant

Celebrity Apprentice contestant Brett Michaels was describing how another contestant, Brande Roderick, had begged on her knees not to be fired. “Must be a pretty picture, you dropping to your knees,” Trump said creepily in response. This clip is from his show. His own show! You can’t make this stuff up.

4. Trump Claiming That Women's Jobs Depend On Their Looks

After the 4:45 minute mark of this John Oliver video, the host includes a clip of Trump telling a female reporter that looks do matter in a beauty pageant. “I mean, we could say politically correct that look doesn’t matter, but the look obviously matters,” Trump said. “Like you wouldn’t have your job if you weren’t beautiful." Wow.

5. Trump Calling Breast Pumping "Disgusting"

When an opposing lawyer asked for a break to pump breast milk for her baby, Trump allegedly reacted badly. He "got up, his face got red, he shook his finger at me and he screamed, ‘You’re disgusting, you’re disgusting,’ and he ran out of there,” attorney Elizabeth Beck told CNN. This happened during a deposition, and Trump's lawyer doesn't dispute that Trump called Beck "disgusting." However, he did claim the "disgusting" remark was about Beck taking a break rather than her breast milk pumping. Right, sure.

6. Trump On Rosie O'Donnell

"If I were running The View I'd fire Rosie," Trump told Entertainment Tonight. "I mean I'd look her right in that fat, ugly face of hers and say 'Rosie, you're fired." And he just keeps on going.

7. Trump On Daughter, Ivanka

The whole clip is terrible, especially considering Trump is talking about his own daughter, Ivanka Trump, with Howard Stern. The two discuss how "voluptuous" Ivanka is, and when Stern asks if he can call Ivanka a "piece of ass," Trump says, "yeah." An entire CNN panel was left speechless after hearing the recordings.

8. Trump On Daughter, Tiffany

When asked on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous what his then 1-year-old daughter Tiffany Trump had of his, and what she had of her mother, Marla Maples, Trump immediately said Tiffany had Marla's legs. He then made a gesture to his chest, saying, "We don't know whether she's got this part yet, but time will tell." Daily Show host Trevor Noah was left speechless by this clip.

9. The "Greatest Hits"

This tweet includes a clip that pulls together a bunch of video clips of Trump's most lewd and discriminatory moments. It's a short but thorough overview of some of his worst statements.

It's hard to believe Trump when he says he respects women after seeing all of that. Furthermore, the fact that he refuses to own up to the comments makes it even more difficult to respect him as a leader. So, don't expect him to stop futilely denying the truth — even if he's elected to office.
