10 Travel-Friendly Shoes That Go With Everything

by Kelli Acciardo

There's nothing I love more than travel, but I hate the act of traveling to get somewhere — especially the packing part. It sucks. Who can decide days before they go somewhere, what they want to wear, five days from then? A chic psychic maybe, but definitely not me. If you share the same struggle, then you know that finding travel-friendly shoes is arguably the hardest part.

Not only am I an over-packer, but I'm the complete worst packer. I pretty much go through every closet dumping out piles of clothes, shoes, jewels, bags, etc., and then try to edit down from there, which is nothing short of a disaster. The hardest part always seems to be the shoes...no matter how many looks I try to center around two pairs, I always wish I had brought others once I unpack. Hot climates are great, since sandals take up zero space, but when you are going on any other kind of trip besides a beach vacay you need footwear that will actually look cute and keep you warm. Here's a few styles that will do just that.

Whether you're laid-back, sporty, glam, or a mix of styles, these shoes will not only go from day-to-night, but they're suitcase-friendly — aka they fold up, can be stuffed with other items, or take up little space.

Traveling just got a lot easier.

1. A Perforated Slingback

Isola 'Lora' Slingback in Anthracite Suede, $110, Isola Shoes

Not only will this neutral cut-out slingback go with everything, but it's great for packing, since you can shove socks and undies inside of it. The suede material is also super soft, so it will flatten (for travel) without compromising the shape of the shoe when you go to wear it later.

2. Pointy Leather Flats

Johnson Tea Rose Flat, $149, Coach

Tassels have been trending for a while now and we're not seeing any signs of them leaving. Upgrade a classic "can walk 500 miles in these" shoe with a lace-up version that also includes this quirky accent.

3. An Edgy Slide

Sorrel Torpeda Slide Sandal, $85, Sorel

Before you even reach for those basic flip flops, consider a cool slide that works for both dresses and jeans.

4. Metallic Booties

Ankle Boots, $50, H&M

Metallic a huge trend for fall and these amazing gold booties are versatile enough to be dressed up with textured tights and a jumpsuit, or styled more casually with jeans and a cool jacket. Stuff them with jewelry pouches when packing to save even more space in your bag.

5. Sporty Slip-Ons

Söfft 'Somers' Slip-On in Snare Gret, $80, Soft Shoe

Söfft 'Somers' Slip-On in Snare Grey, $80, sofftshoe.com

If you're going to pack one shoe, make sure it's a comfy, yet trendy, sporty slip-in. I love these because of their snake print and multi-layer insole for added comfort. Plus, no ties means less time getting ready and more time brunching.

6. Tall Boots

Thigh-High Faux Suede Boots, $40, Forever 21

#1 rule of packing a tall boot: Make sure they're soft, which means they'll fold up in your luggage. These suede stunners are also only $40, so even if you wear them to death on your trip, you won't be dropping a ton of dough to replace them.

7. A Breathable Flat

Bed Stu Watusi Flat in Bue Driftwood, $125, Bed Stu

Perforated anything is a must when walking around all day. Not only for your feet, but your suitcase — especially if you're moving from place to place and packing and unpacking a lot (aka you don't want smelly flats touching everything else). This leather slip-on combines a comfy design with a cool blue hue that will stand out in any coastal town.

8. Strappy Black Sandals

Vince Camuto Mairana Sandal, $110, Vince Camuto

If you're going to bring one pair of black "going out" shoes, these would be the ones to take. Not only is the two-strap sandal probably the most flattering style, but a chunky heel is soooo much more forgiving on your feet than a stiletto. You want to be able to see the sights without stumbling around in pain the next day, #amirite?

9. Colorful Lace-Up Sandals

Mia Reanna Pompom Lace-Up Sandals, $53, Lulu's

No but really, what says tropical vacay more than these bad boys?! Just add cut-offs and a tank, all day, every day.

10. Classic Ballet Flats

Born Julianne Flats, $90, Born Shoes

The most comfortable ballet flat, ever. Choose from seven different colors and prepare to become seriously attached.
