You HAVE To Try This Haircare Trend

by Miki Hayes

If you've ever multimasked, you're probably aware of how effective (and fun) it can be for your skin. But you don't have to limit it to your face. In fact, you shouldn't, because multimasking is also great for your hair. Even though we tend to classify our locks as being only dry, only frizzy, or only oily, much like our faces, you can actually have different needs for different sections of your hair. To find out a little more about how multimasking for hair actually works, and why you'll want to start doing it ASAP, I emailed with an expert.

Oscar Blandi, celebrity stylist and owner of Oscar Blandi Salon in New York City, let me in on why you should incorporate multimasking into your haircare routine. According to Blandi, "When you multi-mask your hair, it has a great benefit because it will bring your hair back to a healthier stage." This is because, he explains, there could be a number of properties your hair is lacking from moisture, to strength, to shine, to flexibility. And especially if you color or heat-style your hair, there is extra stress on the shaft of your strands that causes them to become dry and brittle, says Blandi. So you can keep your hair healthy and strong, there are some mask combos that will work together to target your concerns. Here are some to try according to your hair types:

1. Frizzy, Curly Hair

Redken Frizz Dismiss, $21, Ulta and Cantu Shea Butter For Natural Hair Deep Treatment Masque, $6, Amazon

For ladies with dry, curly hair that tends to become frizzy, try a mask combo like this one. A calming mask will smooth and tame the mid-lengths of your locks, while a deep treatment mask will intensely nourish and restore brittle ends.

2. Congested, Thin Hair

Keranique Micro-Exfoliating Follicle Revitalizing Mask, $45, Sephora and Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Masque, $36, Ulta

Clear your scalp of buildup while also conditioning your strands with a multimasking duo like this one. The revitalizing mask will gently exfoliate the scalp and promote healthy hair growth when applied to the roots while the moisturizing mask will hydrate and strengthen damaged hair without weighing it down when applied to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair.

3. Weak, Color-Treated Hair

Fekkai Technician Color Care Luxe Color Masque, $14, Amazon and PHYTO PHYTOELIXIR Intense Nutrition Mask, $59, Dermstore

Colored hair tends to be more prone to damage, breakage, and color fading. Tackle these concerns all at once by applying a mask that will prevent color fading all over, and a color-safe mask that will condition and protect against recurring dryness from mid-lengths to ends.

4. Limp, Fine Hair

Jericho Mud Hair Mask For Oily And Irritated Scalp, $26, Jericho Skincare and Orlando Pita Play Big Revival Bodifying Hair Mask, $32, Ulta

Besides lacking volume, fine hair can also tend to be oily. Try applying a mask that will purify your scalp and strengthen your roots to the top portion of your hair and a mask that will amplify and nourish your strands to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair.

5. Dull, Coarse Hair

Mystic Divine Luminous Shine Smoothing Masque, $10, Sally Beauty and Amika Nourishing Mask, $28, Sephora

For hair that needs extra shine and moisture, apply a smoothing mask to your mid-lengths and a deep-conditioning, split-end sealing mask to the ends of your hair.

Because two hair masks really are better than one.
