This Video Is Trump's Campaign In A Nutshell

by Emma Cueto

At some point in this election, I became pretty convinced that Donald Trump was just making things up as he went along, saying whatever popped into his head whether it made sense or not. And that's precisely what makes the video "Donald Trump Solves Women's Issues" by Period Piece resonate. Period Piece , which debuted earlier this year, is a laugh-out-loud web series about "women in different periods of history... having their periods"; as such, it's perhaps to be expected that an episode about Trump's attitude towards women would hit the scene right about now. After all, this election cycle has certainly been... uh... notable in that respect.

When it comes to "women's issues" — also known as just "issues" — Donald Trump's approach has generally been pretty terrible, ranging from his statement that people who have abortions should be punished (which he later amended to people who perform abortions, not people who get them) to his choice of Mike Pence as a running mate (Pence's policies are notably bad for women, as well as for LGBTQ people, people of color, and many other marginalized groups). But even beyond the usual political issues affecting women, Donald Trump has also demonstrated that he has a major misogyny problem. Over the course of the campaign, he has said numerous degrading things about women, gone after female figures like Megyn Kelly or Alicia Machado, and generally failed to treat women as human beings (who, by the way, all have the right to vote).

And that was before the release of a 2005 tape in which Trump boasts to Billy Bush about groping women's genitals and kissing them without their consent. Since then, numerous women have also come forward accusing Trump of allegedly engaging in sexually inappropriate behavior. (Trump has repeatedly denied these allegations.)

And yet Trump continues to insist that he loves women — which makes this parody video in which a fictionalized version of him boasts that he's found a way to solve all women's issues hilariously believable. It's also a pretty good synopsis of how Trump's presidential campaign has gone thus far.

In the video, we see "Donald Trump," complete with over-sized suit and catastrophe hair, interviewed by "Megyn Kelly" (also fictionalized), whose name he can't seem to get right.

He then boasts about how much women love him — and, in typical fashion, backs this claim up with evidence that has nothing to do with the issue at hand, namely that he's had three wives. (Fun fact: Having been married three times does not, in fact, prove that women adore you.)

"Trump" falls back on his habit of insisting that he's never said things that he's said repeatedly in well-documented fashion. "Megyn Kelly" tries to correct this claim, but also tries to get "Trump" to discuss policy — which has also been a common media move this election. Instead of calling Trump out for the ridiculous and offensive things he has said and done, the media has largely tried to give him chances to walk back his statements or change the subject to something more substantial. And that's exactly what we're seeing in this parody, too.

And as we've seen throughout his entire campaign real life campaign, "Trump" in the video ignores this opportunity to continue down a path of conversation he can only lose. That's where we get Trump's best policy proposal ever: How to solve all women's issues. Here's "Trump's" proposal:

See what I mean? It's literally the entire election in under four and a half minutes.

Raise your hand if you, too, are counting down the minutes until Nov. 8.
