Clinton Just Put The Election In Perspective

by Kelly Tunney

The last presidential debate for the 2016 election was heated. In probably the best line of the night, Hillary Clinton slammed Donald Trump for his celebrity notoriety while she was busy preparing for the White House. "On the day I was in the situation room monitoring the raid that brought Bin Laden to justice, he was hosting the Celebrity Apprentice," she said. Hold for applause.

During the second presidential debate, Trump had brought up Clinton's long history of public service and her inability to get things done, in his opinion. At a campaign rally after the debate, Clinton clapped back with the Celebrity Apprentice line. When Trump once again turned the conversation to her experience during the final debate, Clinton continued her takedown of Trump's experience, bringing up the time the Justice Department filed a civil rights case against Trump.

Back in the 1970s, I worked for Children's Defense Fund, and I was taking on discrimination against African-American kids in schools. He was getting sued by the Justice Department for racial discrimination in his apartment buildings.

This tactic is spot on. One of Trump's repeated platitudes is that he's "not a politician," but that's not necessarily a good thing. It's a little baffling why he expects this to work for him instead of against him. Unfortunately, there must be some people who believe that politicians are corrupt and untrustworthy, but to favor a totally inexperienced candidate over someone who actually has a track record of helping people is pretty outrageous.

Clinton is right to defend her long history helping Americans, and showing voters how she has dedicated her life to making America better for everyone. She has proved herself as a dedicated public servant, saying,

I'm happy to compare my 30 years of experience, what I've done for this country, trying to help in every way I could, especially kids and families get ahead and stay ahead with your 30 years. And I'll let the American people make that decision.

This long road of debates has been a tough one, but at the final debate before the general election, Clinton clearly showed that she's ready to ascend to the role and lead America. Her responses were clear and pointed, and overall the debate really showed the differences between the two candidates. Trump acted like the finger-pointing complainer that he has been during his entire campaign and Clinton emerged as the strong leader her supporters know she can be.

They both now have the next few weeks to drive home their campaigns and win over any remaining undecided voters before Nov. 8.
