14 Election Day Facebook Status Ideas

by Lara Rutherford-Morrison

November 8 — Election Day! — is fast approaching. If you’ve already chosen you’re candidate and are just waiting around, twiddling your thumbs, until you can finally cast your vote, why not start selecting some inspiring Election Day Facebook statuses to post after going to the ballot box? You can encourage your FB friends to vote and remind everyone why our representative democracy, imperfect though it may be, is awesome.

Putting up a special Facebook status after voting on Election Day is like the Digital Age-version of wearing an “I voted!” sticker on your clothing all day. It may be a little smug, but deservedly so: Voting is important, and you should feel proud of yourself for doing it. And you should take a moment to remember that what this country does every four years is pretty extraordinary: Millions of people make their voices heard to choose a leader, and our current leader peacefully hands over the keys to the White House. Former rivals of the new leader accept the will of the people and step down. It might seem like old hat to you now, but this whole “peaceful transfer of power” thing is a luxury that many people around the world don’t get to enjoy.

Read on for 14 quotes about voting and democracy you can use to decorate your FB page on Election Day:
