Does The Row Really Copy Other Designers?

Celebrity stylist Lysa Cooper is throwing some major shade at Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in this month's Vogue Italia. No, she's not having calling them out on the many logistical problems in Our Lips Are Sealed. Cooper is claiming that the twins rip off other designers in their line The Row.

Cooper criticizes nearly all celebrity fashion lines, saying, "Go to school. If you go to school, then maybe you can talk some shit. The only one that’s any good, and I hate to say it, are our girls, the twins. The Row. But the reason that works, is because they hired designers. They [the Olsens] 'yay' or 'nay' [the designs]. And they are the best line at ripping off other lines that I’ve ever seen. I mean they’ve taken Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester. But it’s good. You know, they’re good at it."

Her compliment at the end is so deliciously high-school mean girl. It reminds me when the most popular girl in middle school told me my cargo shorts made me look like a boy, but at least I'll "never lose anything with all those pockets."

So, is The Row just a ripped off version of other brands? It's difficult to say. The line does bare resemblance to the designers Cooper named, but neither Rick Owens nor Ann Demeulemeester were the first to do minimalist black and white clothing. Maybe Cooper is just jealous that the Olsen twins get to hang out with John Stamos.

It's worth noting that Cooper also slammed Rihanna, "Coachella-esque white girls," and Instagram in her interview. In fact, the only person that she does have nice things to say about is Beyoncé, because "of course" and also "obviously."
