Election Night Is Coming... To The Movies

by Emily Lackey

As election night looms ever nearer in our lives, it’s looking like the time for our country to decide between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton is almost here. November 8 is just days away, and the only thing I can think about is where I’m going to spend the evening watching the results roll in. Already there are a number of specials and live events cropping up to help Americans accept the news of our newest President with accuracy and a good sense of humor, but AMC might just have the best idea yet. For the first time ever, AMC is partnering with CNN to bring Stubs members in over 50 cities results of the Presidential election at the theater. And there are some pretty compelling reasons to watch the election this way.

In a statement about the event, which will be happening in a number of cities around the country, AMC’s Executive VP and Chief Content & Programming Officer, Elizabeth Frank explained the reason behind this event:

“On Election Night, as Americans gather in their communities to watch the conclusion of this historic election, we recognize that Democrats want to cheer with fellow Democrats and Republicans cheer with fellow Republicans.”

That level of partisan separation is exactly what this night has to offer. Stubs members can choose between theaters that have been designated as blue (Democrat) or red (Republican). Sounds smart, right?

Because that means that you can avoid any awkward election party that your friends or workmates might be throwing. Who needs to be surrounded by smug victors when the candidate you’ve been rooting for all year long is suddenly thrust into the shadows of history? Not me. Knowing that I can watch in a room full of like-minded people sounds like a perfect way to avoid conflict and survive the night in one piece. And if that isn’t enough of a reason for you, the popcorn, candy, and soda should definitely do it.

Election night coverage will be taking place in AMC theaters in a number of locations, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Baltimore, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Columbus, Denver, Orlando, Phoenix, St. Louis, Houston, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, San Diego, Seattle, San Francisco, Tampa and Washington, D.C. So get your tickets now, and get ready for a night that is sure to go down in history.
